SCHOOL PROFILE

Daylesford PS is located in an attractive historical town 100 km north west of Melbourne, 40 km north east of Ballarat, in the Central Highlands area. The Daylesford township is surrounded by a natural environment which includes mineral springs, Wombat Forest and Lake Daylesford . The town has developed rapidly over the past few years due to an increase in tourism. Established in 1875, the original school building has been recently refurbished and complemented by additional architecturally designed classrooms and specialist facilities and incorporating a number of portable buildings. We have two annexe schools at Drummond and Yandoit.

Staff and students

School enrolment is around 300. Drummond and Yandoit Annexes have 12 and 7 students respectively. A significant proportion of Daylesford students now travel by bus to school. The wide diversity of the school community presents exciting challenges for Daylesford Primary School . Parents are actively involved in the school at many levels and their positive support is an integral part of the school.

Daylesford is staffed in all areas by high-level professionals who have high expectations of themselves and the work they do. Planning has a whole school/teams focus with staff offering positive support to each other in all aspects of their roles, both teaching and teaching support. Their outlook and approach is reflected in a number of state and regional awards and the achievements of our students.

Daylesford PS is proud of the way it encourages individual student development in a way that promotes success, self-esteem and risk taking within a safe, harmonious and caring learning environment. The annexe schools complement this with an emphasis on multi age grouping and individual programs. Students are encouraged to be leaders through School, House and Bus Captaincy, Junior School Council and sport team management.

We are looking to continue to develop a range of consistent teaching and learning strategies across the school that will support students in their learning.

Other Significant Factors

The school has continued to develop and improve the physical environment and facilities.

The Visual Arts and Music programs are highly regarded in the school community and student work is celebrated. A large number of our students participate in sport at district, regional and state level. Improved student outcomes in Literacy and the development of Personal Relationship skills in all students have been high priorities at our school.
