STUDENT WELFARE

Student conduct is at all times the shared responsibility of staff, students and parents

In order to maintain a safe and happy environment for Teaching and Learning at Daylesford Primary School, the Student Code of Conduct is based on the school's guiding values:

Respect (treating people and property with dignity)
Honesty (being truthful in your actions and words)
Trust (being reliable and trustworthy)
Fairness (considering others and situations before acting)
Co-operation (taking responsibility, sharing, working out problems)

Respect
(Treating others with dignity)

All individuals and their property are to be valued and treated with respect
Respecting and acknowledging differences
Promoting pride in the school

Honesty
(Truth in actions/words and what is right)

Role modelling desired behaviours

Trust
(Belief in the reliability of others)

Building self-esteem and confidence
Students have the right to learn and teachers have the right to teach in a co-operative manner and orderly environment

Fairness
(Principles of natural justice and equal opportunities)

Clearly displaying all values and consequences in all classrooms
Being consistent and fair
Students have a right to and a responsibility for an environment that allows them to participate in productive learning
Teaching Personal Relationships Skills to all students that encourages our school values.

Cooperation
(Shared effort and responsibility to a common goal)

Encouraging positive relationships between all students
Encouraging parental involvement

The Principal and staff have an obligation to implement the code of conduct fairly, reasonably and consistently. In order to maintain a secure, happy, learning and teaching environment we have clearly defined guiding values and consequences for the whole school and individual classrooms.

It is expected our students will abide by our guiding values for the benefit of all in our community. Expectations of our 'students centre around a respect for others and accepting responsibility for their own actions.

Breaches of Code of Conduct

It is essential that students accept responsibility for their own behaviour. They understand the consequences of their behaviour. They need to understand and be aware of the reasons for the Schools' Code of Behaviour and that breaches will incur sequential consequences.

Consequences of breaching our Code of Behaviour

Students are asked to complete a Behaviour Plan, which they then discuss with their teacher.

All plans will be sent home with the student at the earliest opportunity, preferably same day of the incident. If the student doesn't return the plan within two days, a follow-up phone call needs to be made by the classroom teacher.

If a student receives 2 plans in a 5-week period they will then complete "school service" duty. If a student receives 3 in a 5-week period parents will be contacted and a meeting arranged.

Serious or continued breaches will see the student placed on an Individual Behaviour Contract and if required DET discipline procedures will be implemented.

At the end of the 5-week period all students' behaviour plans are collected and all students begin the next period with a clean slate.

Classroom Consequences:

Classroom teachers are encouraged to develop and follow a set of consequences that move from least intrusive to more intrusive in a sequential manner.

All class teachers are also expected to complete a "choice wheel/web" in the classrooms to facilitate the implementation of the behaviour plans.
